Discernment
from the Advertise for Your Own Life Series (this is Part Three)How can we experience our authentic voice?
As discussed in Part Two, authentic messages can be recognized as internal
positively-phrased directives. In this way they are unlike authoritative
"no" messages which direct us not to do something, even if these also
come from within.
Authentic messages are also different from "buy" messages, in
that they do not have a specific end clearly associated with them. There is no "sales
pitch" in authenticity, and the end result of following these promptings is not
spelled out for us. Our authentic inner voice does no convincing, pleading, and smakes no
argument as to its merits.
Also, when we think about an authentic prompting, we may not be able to
"figure out" the end result of following its directive. In this way, authentic
promptings may be deemed "irrational." This is not an insult, it is a
description of that which surpasses intellect.
Our authentic voice is also not related to memories (such as
remembering someone tellling us what we should do), nor is it a program of predictable
activity (such as "if I exercise every day, then I'll lose five pounds ...."). Our
Authentic Voice is something quite different, and its hallmarks are:
internal
directive
positively phrased
unpredictable/irrational
Our authentic voice can be experienced by accepting that it is prompting
us simply at every moment-- including this one. It is often quiet, and may speak in a
plain or neutral tone. Authentic direction is usually as simple as "take a right turn
here," and rarely as dramatic as "this is the secret to the
universe!"
Acting on our authentic promptings means we take the right turn whether or
not we know where it is going to take us. When we get practiced at this, we realize that
the results of such obedience to our authentic self always yield extraordinary
opportunities, meetings, coincidences and results. We then reinforce it naturally, and our
Authentic Voice becomes a trusted inner sense.
As for discernment, this is your job, and no one can "teach" you
through it. It is a matter of practice. So please do not take my word for how your
authentic voice speaks to you, nor let your mind argue the merits of it. Just get real
evidence by acting on what you hear when you listen for your authentic voice, and notice
the results. In a short time, you will begin to make even more distinctions about how your
authentic voice is communicating with you...
brought to you by.
